Firefighters have almost completely contained a brush fire in northeast Scottsdale, named the Peakview Fire. Ryan Wick, a Rural Metro Fire spokesperson, said the fire was 90% contained as of Wednesday afternoon. The cause of the fire was still under investigation. The fire started Tuesday morning south of Rio Verde Road and traveled across the road, growing to be about 30 acres by 11 a.m, threatening Scottsdale homes near 144th Street and Rio Verde Drive. Officials estimated about 30 acres were burned, but no structures were damaged. The Rural Metro Fire Department was monitoring the area to see if there are any spot fires or smoldering, Wick said. Yesterday, Arizona State Fire Department and Scottsdale Fire Department were on scene helping. "We're hoping to wrap it up by end of today or tomorrow, as long as everything goes well and the wind stays steady," Wick said.
