Arizona health officials announced more than 3,400 new cases of coronavirus on Tuesday -- the highest since July 25.
The alarming case count comes a day after a low Monday count of 435 new cases in the state. However, Maricopa County alone reported about 1,000 new cases Monday -- an obvious discrepancy between the reports. Monday case reports are generally lower than normal with a higher number of cases on Tuesday as backlogs are filled from the weekend.
However, Arizona has been seeing between 1,500 and 2,000 cases, or above, daily during the last couple weeks.
It's unclear at this time how many of Tuesday's 3,434 reported cases were from the past 24 hours or from backlogs.
