UPDATE: Heavy Fire 50% contained, estimated at 104 acres in Santa Rita Mountains

The Heavy Fire burning in the Santa Rita Mountains is 50% contained at about 104 acres as of Thursday, June 17. The fire sparked near Helvetia Wednesday, June 16. Original estimates put the size at about 250 acres, but on Thursday, the estimates were reduced. Officials say it started near the Helvetia Mine on private lands and burned onto Coronado National Forest. Sixty-five personnel are assigned to the fire.
