Two people are dead, and two others injured after a crash in Buckeye late Sunday night. It happened around 10:30 p.m. near Verrado Way and Van Buren Street.
Buckeye police say officers got on scene and found one car on fire, engulfed in flames. A second car had a woman trapped inside, and a man behind the wheel of a third vehicle had rolled several times landing in a nearby field. Officers were able to rescue the woman who had been trapped in her car. The driver of the third car that had flipped was also taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
When firefighters extinguished the car on fire, they discovered two people who were unable to escape the flames. Sadly, both were pronounced dead at the scene, police say.
The intersection was closed for some time as the police investigated the scene but has since been reopened. It's unclear if speed or impairments were factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
