VIDEO: At least 75 palm trees were damaged by a brush fire at Agua Caliente Park in Tucson on Wednesday, Sept. 28. “We’re in the assessment stage. We want to see what’s out there, see what’s damaged, see what has to go, see what can stay. Then we will repair and replace, and we will reopen,” Nikki Reck with Pima County Parks and Recreation said. Rural Metro Fire confirmed the blaze was started by a lightning strike but it was under control as of 4 p.m. Pima County Parks and Recreation also said the fire damaged between 75 to 100 palm trees, three interpretive signs, three benches, the irrigation system in the immediate area and grass. The park will be temporarily closed until the county can fully assess the damage. All special use permits are on hold, and the county is issuing refunds to anyone who had rented out parts of the park.
