VIDEO: One of the largest wildfires in Texas history is burning through the panhandle. It’s burning more than 1,300 square miles of the northern part of the state. Texas is asking for help from other states to control the flames. Clint Remington is a deputy fire staff with the Tonto National Forest. He says Texas is asking for lots of help and expects other states to step up. “Texas is definitely a little bit different, very flat and a whole bunch of grass,” Remington said. He was sent to the Lonestar State for nearly three months to help control a wildfire in 2011. While Arizona fire groups come up with a plan to send people and equipment to Texas, there is an important training happening in the East Valley this week. Pilots from Alaska, California and Utah are at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, working together to battle wildfires from the sky.
