Antioch: Man Arrested After Setting Apartment on Fire, Assaulting Firefighters

At 2:35 am Friday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters and Antioch Police responded to a report of a man who set his apartment on fire in the 2100 block of Peppertree Way in the City of Antioch. Firefighters responded to locate the exterior of the home on fire along with a fire in a back bedroom and as they attempted to extinguish, the male threw a book shelf out the window and began throwing items at firefighters stated Antioch Police. The fire was quickly extinguished and the man was taken into custody by Antioch Police. This is the second time in 72-hours police had been to the home as on Wednesday, they had a nearly 4-hour standoff with the male who barricaded himself in the apartment before a peaceful resolution and the man was taken for mental evaluation.
