Brush Fire In Rio Vista Burns 380 Acres, Closes Highway 12 Lanes

Crews contained a vegetation fire that began burning Wednesday afternoon in east Solano County at state highways 12 and 113 west of Rio Vista. The Montezuma Fire Protection District responded to the three-alarm fire that burned at least 380 acres, according to the Montezuma Fire District. It was fully contained at 6:30 p.m. The four-alarm fire was in an area where windmills are located and was reported around 3:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. The CHP issued a Sig-alert at 4:30 p.m. The fire was burning on both sides of Highway 12 and all lanes of eastbound Highway 12 was closed at Olsen Road, the CHP said. Firefighters told CBS Sacramento the fire was caused by a farmer harvesting crops. The area that burned is not part of the PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoffs. Fortunately, extra crews were positioned nearby and were able to stop further spread.
