Oxnard fire crews put out a suspicious fire late Tuesday night at an old church building on East 2nd Street. The incident was reported at 11:46 p.m. at 305 E. 2nd St. where firefighters arrived to find the building's exterior burning, according to the Oxnard Fire Department. The blaze at Abundant Life Center, which sits on the corner of 2nd Street and Hayes Avenue, apparently started in an entry way and damaged an exterior stairwell, according to Assistant Fire Chief Alex Hamilton. The fire was stopped right before it reached the inside of the structure, saving the building from significant damage, he said. Hamilton confirmed the fire as arson that caused approximately $15,000 in damage. As of Wednesday afternoon, there were currently no suspects and the investigation was ongoing, Hamilton said.
