The San Bernardino County Fire Department has tapped into its relationship with San Bernardino International Airport to relocate its coronavirus pandemic incident command team to a larger facility there.
The team was formed on March 6 to make sure that every firefighting agency in the county had enough firefighters should some take ill, to distribute personal protective equipment and other supplies to those agencies and to strengthen communication. Eighteen agencies are part of the team.
But the team, as it expanded, outgrew the Emergency Operations Center on 5th Street in downtown San Bernardino.
“We were literally elbow to elbow,” county fire spokesman Eric Sherwin said. Some offices had upwards of eight people and three to a desk, making keeping a safe social distance difficult.
