The San Joaquin Valley Air District is issuing a "health caution" after pallets at a Reedley packaging company caught fire Thursday morning, emitting smoke into the air.
The fire was first reported just before 2:30 am in the area of Apple and Huntsman Avenues at the packaging company, Maxco Supply, Inc.
Maxco is known for making the boxes and other packaging for fresh fruit.
The fire burned through wood pallets and some fruit boxes. The Valley Air District said the fine-particulate matter from the smoke could cause problems for those with respiratory issues and children and seniors. Massive flames could be seen from far away as firefighters from Reedley, Dinuba, and Fresno and Tulare counties worked to douse the blaze.
The air district's "health caution" will be in effect until the fire is put out.
