An early-morning fire destroyed a landmark in Butte County. The flames also spread to vegetation along Highway 70. The fire broke out around 2:30 a.m. Thursday in the 2700 block of Highway 70 in Palermo. Locals know the property as 'The Church in the Barn.' The flames were so bright, they showed up on the PG&E weather camera in South Oroville. The flames spread to nearby vegetation and cars on the property burning about half an acre. Residents said in the past church services had been held at the barn for many years, but in recent years there had been code enforcement issues. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
