Redwood City has named Ray Iverson, the Fire Chief for the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department, as its next fire chief after a national recruitment.
The position, which has been open since Stan Maupin retired as fire chief last year, oversees fire services for Redwood City and San Carlos, a combined population of nearly 120,000 residents. Iverson will begin the role in June.
"I welcome the opportunity to make a positive impact on the communities of Redwood City and San Carlos," Iverson said in a news release. Iverson previously served as Deputy Fire Chief in San Mateo and has experience in various fire departments throughout northern California.
A San Mateo resident, Iverson is the President of the International Fire Service Foundation.
