The McKinney Fire burning west of Yreka grew to 55,493 acres Monday with no increase in containment. Fire crews were grateful for some rain overnight that helped to slow the growth of the fire that is currently threatening 4,912 homes. According to the United States Forest Service, the fire is burning actively toward structures in the Walker Creek area. The southern edges of the fire near Fort Jones and Yreka saw little growth overnight. Crews appreciated the rain Sunday night but the threat of thunderstorms Monday afternoon and evening increased the fire threat. Crews were also concerned about strong and erratic winds that could increase fire behavior. Crews were focused on constructing containment lines Monday.
