PHOTOS: An early morning fire in the Lindo Channel in Chico burned within a few feet of nearby homes.
The fire broke out just before 2 a.m. Thursday in the Lindo Channel, along Reed Park Drive just off Macdonald Avenue and the Esplanade. Neighbors told Action News Now they awoke to flames in the channel, where there is a transient camp. The neighbors scrambled to alert everyone on the cul de sac.
They said have seen a series of transient-caused fires in that same area in the last couple of years.
"It's very concerning'" neighbor Devin Duggins said. "We have an elderly woman lives here. This is the third time fire has started over here. Having to get back here in this creek the encampments in there is what starts it, to have to grab your wits early in the morning and think what needs to happen. We all got in action and got her out, got the hose and got going after it."
