PHOTO: One person was rescued after a vehicle went over the side in the Kern Canyon, falling about 50 feet down Wednesday morning. The Kern County Fire Department said on Wednesday, December 6, at around 5 a.m., firefighters were called to the Kern Canyon for a vehicle over the side, about 50 feet below the roadway. When crews arrived, they found a passenger vehicle with one person out of the vehicle sitting with bystanders on the rocks below the roadway with minor medical complaints. KCFD said the Captain was able to hike down to the patient while the rest of the crew set up a rope rescue system to lower the firefighter and equipment down to the patient. The crew worked together to help the person and bystanders back up to the road safely.
