The Target store in the Menifee Countryside Marketplace remained closed on Tuesday, Jan. 31, nine days after what police say was an intentionally set fire. Menifee police and the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department are investigating witness statements that suggest someone set the fire to divert attention from a theft, said police Lt. Denise Keith, a department spokeswoman. The fire was reported at about 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 22 at 30340 Haun Road. Employees put the fire out and evacuated. No one was reported injured, but the sprinkler system damaged a section of the store. Investigators determined that the fire was set, Keith said. No arrests have been announced.
