VIDEO/PHOTOS: A man has been hospitalized after receiving burns from an illegal campfire and possible explosion in a known transient area near Mercy Medical Center on Monday night.
Officials with the Redding Fire Department (RFD) told KRCR's Chief Photographer, Adam McAllister, they received a call for smoke and a possible fire with explosions near the area of Mercy hospital. A fire engine responded to the hospital's parking lot to get a bird's eye view of the area and then spotted what appeared to be a structure fire off of Linden Avenue.
The RFD said their units were then dispatched to the area for a structure response. However, upon arriving to the scene of the fire, firefighters found a small camping fire. Additionally, they found a man suffering moderate burns to his hands and face.
