There have been some changes since the Oroville Fire Department became Cal Fire-Butte County/Oroville, but Chris Tenns, assistant chief for Oroville wants the public to know the level of service remains top notch.
“The community is still receiving good service from good firefighters. We just have a different patch on our shirts. The city is not losing at all. We are meeting the mission and serving the community and we’re not letting anything get in the way of that. We set politics aside and are doing what’s best for the community,” said Tenns. On July 1, 2022 a $4.9 million one-year contract between the city of Oroville and Cal Fire-Butte County went into effect transferring the cost and responsibility for personnel, 18 firefighters in total, to the state firefighting agency. The cost of personnel to the city for the previous year, July 2021 to July 2022 was $3.2 million.
