VIDEO: The Selma Fire Department announced that firefighter-paramedic Chris Nelson, who became paralyzed in an incident that occurred on Feb. 8, 2014, died Thursday morning in his sleep. This would have been the 10th anniversary of his incident. Selma FD says Nelson was 55 years old and he passed away in his sleep. He joined the department in October 2006 and sustained an injury that occurred while he was training on duty, which left him paralyzed. Nelson was recently honored in January with a new ladder truck that was named after him. The Selma Fire Department donated the ladder truck, which was no longer being used – to Fresno City’s fire academy and in the process, named the truck in Nelson’s honor, something Nelson was not expecting but was extremely grateful for.
