VIDEO: Firefighters were called out Monday to a brush fire south of Alpine that began in a residence. The blaze began burning sometime around 1:30 p.m. just south of the Loveland Reservoir, which is near Sloan Canyon. The so-called #Love2IC Fire began in a residence that was described by Cal Fire as a "complete loss." About 18 acres were charred by the blaze, which officials originally said could spread to as much as 100 acres. Firefighting aircraft — both helicopters and at least one fixed-wing craft — flew overhead and made water and fire-retardant drops. Other than the home that was destroyed, no other structures were threatened by the flames. Water reserves were no problem for the aircraft, since the nearby Loveland Reservoir is nearly topped out from the spring rains.
