Firefighters at the Platteville Gilcrest Fire Protection District responded about 8:45 a.m. Friday to a camper fire east of Gilcrest. Firefighters from the LaSalle and Evans fire protection districts assisted with the fire near 20000 Southgate Avenue, which engulfed nearby power lines belonging to Xcel Energy. According to preliminary reports, a 40-year-old man was evaluated on the scene for smoke inhalation. The fire was under control by about 9:39 a.m. Friday. The Xcel spokesman did not immediately return a call Friday morning asking whether customers were affected.
