A window frame in the Park Theater Mall caught fire on Sunday and was contained in less than an hour by the Estes Valley Fire Protection District (EVFPD). Unlike the fire that ravaged the structure in 2009, this fire caused no physical damage to the building. At 6:26 p.m. on June 2, fire crews were dispatched to the fire at the historic theater after an employee alerted to smoke coming from the upper portion of the structure. Within seven minutes, fire crews were on scene. “When the crews got there, they saw smoke coming out of the windows,” said John Jerome, EVFPD fire marshal. Crews were equipped with two fire engines and a ladder truck to put out the flames. According to Jerome, the cause of the fire is being ruled as undetermined and electrical in nature.
