A firefighter is okay after a home exploded in the 200 block of West Hanover Circle in Orchard Mesa the morning of Thanksgiving. The Grand Junction Fire Department showed up to the scene at around 5 a.m., after calls came in about a house fire and possible explosion. When they started to put out the flames, firefighters went into the garage, and a second explosion occurred. One firefighter had minor injuries and was taken to the hospital with second degree burns to his hands. Residents of the home evacuated before fire crews showed up. "Well, I think the biggest takeaway for us yesterday was truly a great Thanksgiving and that we had 3 of our members in a structure that blew up and they got to go home with their families,” says Battalion Chief Matt Carson. The cause of the fire and explosion remains under investigation.
