The Palmer Lake Fire Department is still struggling to find funding after the town nearly dissolved it.
In July, the 81-year-old fire department was at risk of getting shut down when the town nearly shut down and outsourced their fire needs to the Tri-Lakes Fire Department.
During a heated meeting between firefighters, concerned residents, and the Board of Trustees, it was agreed that the deal with Tri-Lakes was off the table, but funding for a new building, equipment, and salaries was still needed.
Shana Ball, the head of the committee trying to keep the fire department alive was working with the town to get write a ballot initiative that would increase a mill levy for the town in order to fund the department.
Ball said they ran out of time before the final draft was approved.
That means the current firefighters won't see a pay raise.
"There's just going to have to continue making the amount they're making which is just above minimum wage," Ball said.
