Loveland Fire Rescue Authority rescued a woman who broke her femur in a wakeboarding accident at Boyd Lake State Park on Wednesday afternoon. Battalion chief Eric Klaas said the fire department was dispatched at 2:07 for a call of a person in the water with a broken leg. Firefighters and Thompson Valley EMS responded to the scene, and Boyd Lake State Park rangers assisted. Two swimmers from the fire department got into the water with the patient to stabilize her leg and help her get into a ranger boat about 20 minutes after being dispatched, Klaas said. The incident is a reminder of the importance of wearing a life jacket when out on the water, Klaas said. Because the woman was wearing a life jacket, she was able to stay afloat and stay safe until help arrived.
