The American Red Cross provided temporary housing to Greeley residents this weekend after an electrical fire damaged their home. The Greeley Fire Department responded about 5 p.m. Friday to the 1000 block of 21st Avenue with three fire engines, two ladder trucks, two battalion chiefs and a medical unit. An occupant of the residence called in the fire, which was located in the attic. No one was injured. Greeley Fire Marshal Bob Fries said the fire was accidental and electrical in nature. The fire caused about $40,000 in damages, according to Fries. The peak months for home fires involving electrical failure or malfunction are November through March, according to a report from the National Fire Prevention Association. Attics are the areas of origin in about 10% of home electrical fires and the most common area of origin in fires involving wiring and related equipment.
