A veterinary office in rural El Paso County was destroyed after a fire started in the building early Monday morning.
At sunup, a charred skeleton was all that was left of the structure.
According to the Peyton fire chief, crews responded to a 911 call near Hanks Grove and Murphy Road just after 2:30 a.m.
“We arrived to find a double-wide fully involved,” said Chief Turner in an email to 11 News.
The exact address is 16895 Hanks Grove, which is location of Colorado Equine Veterinary Services, according to the office’s website.
It’s unclear what started the fire, but with the strong wind gusts Monday, the flames rapidly consumed the structure, causing the roof to collapse. Crews from four additional fire departments were called to assist: Falcon, Calhan, Ellicott and Black Forest. Turner said those crews were later relieved due to the heavy winds and frigid temperatures.
