Recruitment efforts are underway for the city’s fire department, and officials are hoping various factors help those who might be unsure about applying.
In an effort to help those who might be worried about the financial burden of covering the cost of CPAT testing, required to become a firefighter, the city announced a scholarship program Wednesday that will cover the cost of the test for 150 applicants. The scholarships will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The test’s cost is typically $175. Scholarships will be granted to applicants who meet the following requirements: be a city of Bridgeport resident, meet the financial need requirements, participate in community service and attend at least four one-hour CPAT training sessions at 236 Evergreen St. at no cost.
