Spectators and fans gathered at Wolfe Park Sunday to watch as hundreds of people ran or walked the Sprint for Monroe 5K. The sprint is a fundraiser that benefits such local charities as the Monroe Food Pantry, the Monroe Project Warmth, Monroe’s volunteer EMS and fire departments and many others. Nearly 600 people registered for the 5K race and 65 children participated in the Race4Chase Kids’ Fun Run. The race raised over $20,000 for the supported charities. The winners of the race were Sean Ferguson of Shelton with a time of 15:47 and Devyn Pryor of Madison, with a time of 18:55. Winners took home cash prizes and medals. Dr. Adam Pearl of CT Ear, Nose & Throat Surgical Specialists won the 2019 Ryan Boyle Spirit Award in part for his work with My Team Triumph. The organization allows physically challenged individuals to participate in road races by being pushed by an “angel” for most of the distance.
