After grappling with options for more than a year, town leaders and the Bozrah Volunteer Fire Company have entered into an 18-month agreement to hire paid firefighters and EMTs to augment the ranks of the formerly all-volunteer BVFC. Voters overwhelmingly passed the employment agreement at a recent town meeting, which comes at a cost of $163,534, with $30,600 slated for personnel costs and $42,934 for new gear and equipment during the current fiscal year. Costs for the next fiscal year, which begins July 1, total $80,000 for personnel and $10,000 for equipment. The agreement, which will remain in effect until June 30, 2020, will allow the town, through its Board of Selectmen, to hire part-time and per-diem firefighters and EMTs to staff the fire company on weekday mornings and afternoons, Monday through Friday.
