Firefighters quickly knocked down a blaze at the Family Dollar Store on Captain Thomas Boulevard early this morning, officials said. Dispatchers received several 911 calls and a police officer on patrol noticed smoke and fire coming from the back of the building at 238 Captain Thomas Boulevard around 2:50 a.m., West Haven Fire Capt. Rick Frisco said. No one was in the building at the time and there were no reported injuries, Frisco said. The fire was quickly put out, he said. The cause of the blaze is under investigation by the city's fire marshal, he said.
