PHOTO: March 10 was cold and windy with wet snow, and at 10 a.m, the slopes at Mohawk Mountain ski area were perfect for downhill racing. Seven teams of firefighters competed that day in the annual firefighter race, raising money for the Connecticut Burn Center at Bridgeport Hospital. The annual event draws skiiing firefighters from around the state. This year’s competitors hailed from Middlebury, Morris, Pleasant Valley, Kent, Avon and South Kensington. The Morris Fire Department, a newly established group of volunteers, won the race this year making it down the half-hill slolom on 31.88 seconds. Pleasant Valley placed second with 35.15 seconds. Middlebury had two teams and place third and fourth, with 36.34 second and 44.56 seconds.
