Firefighters faced an interesting challenge while responding to an automatic fire alarm at the hospital yesterday around noon. Upon arriving at 24 Hospital Ave., crews were advised about a report of smoke on the first floor and a dumpster on fire adjacent to the old emergency room entrance. The incident was escalated to a first-alarm assignment and additional units were called to the scene. After confirming an active trash compactor fire close to the building, crews called Oak Ridge Waste & Recycling, which brought a roll-off truck to remove the compactor.
