Firefighters in town rescued two dogs from a house fire on Wednesday, according to fire officials. Fire Lt. Joseph Arnson said the fire broke out at a home on Sturges Highway around 10:40 a.m. Initially, two engines were sent to the scene. When firefighters got to the scene, they reported a “moderate smoke condition visible through the windows of the front door,” Arnson said. The fire response was then upgraded to include two additional engines and two other fire units. “Firefighters made entry and quickly found plastic burning in a pot on the stove,” Arnson said. “There was a moderate smoke condition on the first and second floors of the residence.” As fire units searched the house, they found two dogs and got them out of the smoke-filled area, the lieutenant said. He said the fire damage was contained to the pot and both dogs were uninjured.
