After an oven fire ruined one family’s Thanksgiving meal, volunteer firefighters and a police officer went to a local store to replace the family’s lost meal.
The Long Hill Volunteer Fire Company responded to a kitchen fire on Oakland Drive around noon Thursday.
“While the fire was contained to the oven, a chemical based fire extinguisher was used by the homeowners to put the fire out and their meal was completely ruined,” officials said.
But the firefighters and the Trumbull police officer that responded weren’t going to let a fire ruin this family’s holiday. The firefighters and police officer went to a nearby Stop and Shop to buy Thanksgiving dinner for the family.
When the store’s management staff saw the firefighters, still decked out in their gear, gathering the fixings for the replacement Thanksgiving meal for the family, the management donated the food to the firefighters to bring back to the family.
