Roy D. “Big Roy” Steeves, 84, passed away peacefully on Oct. 7, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Joan (Thuillard) Steeves for 59 years.
Born July 12, 1935, in Torrington, son of the late Albert L. Steeves and Gertrude (Hudson) Steeves. Roy proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was employed with MDC. He was a member of South End Volunteer Fire Department, serving for 35 years as chairman of South End Fire District. He was also a member of Torrington Elks Lodge and United Congregational Church in Torrington.
Roy enjoyed camping, Christmas and being with family and friends. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at United Congregational Church, Torrington. Burial will follow in Torringford Cemetery.
