ESPN is helping to promote fire safety in the city. October is Fire Prevention Month, explained Fire Chief Jay Kolakoski to the City Council at its October meeting. “It used to be Fire Prevention Week and it expanded to Fire Prevention Month, and really it’s fire prevention throughout the year for us.” Recently, “we were lucky enough to have one of our great community partners visit us down at Station 4,” he said. “ESPN came down to do some photo shoots to promote their NFL Live show on Saturday. They have a segment called Damien’s Dumpster Fires with Damien Woody, former defensive lineman for the Pats and a couple of other teams for that matter.” While they were there, the city’s marketing director, Dawn Nielsen, persuaded the ESPN film crew to do a public service announce to promote Fire Prevention Month in Bristol, he said, cuing up the 15 second PSA to show the council.
