City firefighters sprang into action to help an individual after he went into cardiac arrest during the Charles Island Music Festival on Saturday. The Milford Fire Department marine units heard on the U.S. Coast Guard channel that help was needed for someone in cardiac arrest. The broadcast indicated CPR had been performed by other citizens. Boats served as a floating stage off the shores of Charles Island from about 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the fourth annual Charles Island Music Festival. The two marine units raced to the scene, finding a man with a pulse and “spontaneous respirations,” fire officials said. The fire department paramedics started advanced life support, including cardiac monitoring, intravenous therapy and airway support. The individual was taken to Milford Hospital. From there, he was later transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital.
