Because storms impacting Milford are not new, the Milford Fire Department was ready for Tropical Storm Isaias, officials said. But that doesn’t mean that Chief Doug Edo’s firefighters and emergency response agencies weren’t challenged when heavy rains and strong winds battered the region, toppling trees and power lines and closings roads. Tropical Storm “Isaias was a high wind event. Fortunately, the storm tracked west, and it picked up speed. We had minor to no flooding issues,” said Milford Battalion Chief Chris Zak. “Because of our preparation, we increased our shift strength to allow for more personnel to be available to respond to calls,” Zak said. During the peak of the storm (a 3-hour period), the Milford Public Safety Answering Point, or PSAP, answered over 850 calls on its 911 line.
