No injuries were reported following a structure fire Tuesday night at a home on Hidden Lake Road.
Crews from Haddam Volunteer Fire Co. and Killingworth Volunteer Fire Co. arrived at the scene at about 5:20 p.m. and encountered heavy smoke billowing from an attic window, according to fire officials.
The residents had already evacuated the home, a Haddam Fire spokesperson said in a post on the HVFC Facebook page.
Crews removed all burning debris from a wood boiler in the home’s basement and investigated the chimney for blockage, officials said. After all burning material was removed, firefighters vented the home with fans and checked for any hot spots in the walls. They also metered the home for unusual carbon monoxide levels. Firefighters encouraged the homeowners to have their chimney and appliances inspected by a professional company.
