After a vehicle fire caused first responders to briefly close the northbound lanes of the Merritt Parkway Friday, fire officials are asking drivers to be patient with such instances in the future.
The Westport Fire Department Communications Center got a call just before noon for a vehicle fire on the Merritt Parkway. Units responded, with the first engine getting to the scene within four minutes.
The first unit on scene found a single car on the Merritt’s northbound lanes between Exit 42 and Exit 44 engulfed in flames, according to Westport Fire Lt. Joseph Arnson. The northbound lanes were completely shut down for about 20 minutes so firefighters could extinguish the flames safely. Arnson said there were no injuries as a result of the fire.
“Motorists are asked to be patient when dealing with traffic delays related to fire incidents,” Arnson said.
