The Shaker Pines Fire Department accepted a donation of eight PPE shields from the Preferred Protective Equipment Co., of Enfield.
The shields, according to Preferred Protective Equipment Vice President Ron Rousseau, said the company, which formerly produced displays for the cosmetics industry, developed the shield over 11 weeks, at its headquarters on Moody Road, as a response to the COVID-19 virus.
“We think that we have a marketable product, that we want to go out to the pubic with,” Rousseau said, adding that there are different styles of the shield for other occupations, but this one was created with firefighters in mind.
“It’s reinforced, and made out of Lexan polycarbonate, reinforced with some aluminum,” he said.
