A group of dozens of New Haven firefighters have ended their lawsuit against the city after promotional lists for lieutenant and deputy chief were allowed to expire. The plaintiffs had filed the suit June 19, alleging that the city’s Civil Service Board had illegally extended the life of the two existing promotional lists, curtailing their ability to take the promotional tests for the positions and to potentially advance their careers. On May 27, the Civil Service Board extended the duration of the two promotional lists to allow for city Personnel Director Noelia Marcano to provide a report concerning the “city’s ability to safely gather groups of individuals in order to conduct Civil Service testing,” before “the November, 2020 regular meeting date,” according to the complaint written by Attorney Patricia Cofrancesco. The lists were set to expire June 20.
