At least four people have been injured and have been taken to the hospital after an explosion and fire at a home on Saybrook Road in Middletown Friday morning, according to officials.
Crews responded to the home just before 6:30 a.m. and found people outside, officials said.
Officials at the scene initially said two elderly people were at the house, which is near Aircraft Road, and they were taken to Middlesex Hospital.
Officials later said they transported more than three people.
Two LifeStar medical transport helicopters were called but could not fly.
Several departments responded and provided mutual aid. The fire marshal will be investigating.
