Three people suffered apparent minor injuries after a multi-vehicle crash on Route 8 in the city Thursday afternoon, according to fire officials. Around 2:35 p.m., fire units were dispatched along with Connecticut State Police to a reported crash on Route 8 southbound near Exit 1. The first arriving fire unit reported a possible two- or three-car crash in the left lane. When the battalion fire chief got to the scene, he clarified it was a five-vehicle collision with injuries. The battalion chief soon confirmed the injuries were minor and extrication was not needed. Three ambulances were requested to the scene. As crews worked to clear the crash site, traffic was diverted off Exit 1. The left lane of Route 8 south near the crash site reopened shortly before 3 p.m. By 4 p.m., the right lane was also reopened to traffic.
