The city's emergency responders emerged as early champions of turning Stamford's abandoned police station into a joint headquarters for EMS, 911 dispatch and the central fire department.
"We don't get an opportunity very often to take a look at a piece of property in the city or resource in the city where we can make safety better," Fire Chief Trevor Roach said to the board's Operations Committee on Tuesday night.
Tuesday, the committee held its first of two public hearings dedicated to discussing the future of Stamford's old police station, which has sat empty after asbestos and old age forced the city to build a new headquarters.
Though the Board of Representatives in June agreed to raze the property after years of deliberation, they must still decide whether the city keeps the property or sells it to an outside developer.
