A fire that displaced a dozen people Tuesday was caused by an improperly installed wood stove, the fire marshal said.
The fire at 94 Linsley Ave. was reported around 1:40 p.m. Engines from the Pratt Street station were on the scene within minutes and the fire was under control quickly, Deputy Chief Ryan Dunn said Tuesday.
Kevin Fajardo, 17, a resident of the home climbed a ladder and fought the flames using a garden hose until fire crews arrived. Dunn said firefighters advise against residents using hoses, but noted Fajardo’s efforts combined with the quick response from firefighters prevented worse damage.
A first floor kitchen and the second floor were damaged. A dozen people living in the building were displaced.
The fire was started by an improperly installed wood stove, fire marshal John Yacovino said Wednesday.
