Four people were displaced but none hurt in fires over the weekend on Silver Lane and Bidwell Avenue.
The first, in an apartment building at 140 Silver Lane, occurred around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Fire Chief John Oates, who said the fire alarm went off in the building and there was a smell of smoke on the third floor.
When firefighters arrived they found a fire in a bedroom of one of the third-floor apartments. The fire caused significant damage to that room and caused smoke and heat damage to other rooms, Oates said.
Then, on Sunday around 5 p.m., the department was called to a third-floor apartment at 13 Bidwell Ave., where Oates said a fire started in the kitchen. He said a mother, her two children, and their dog have been temporarily displaced until the apartment is cleaned up.
The causes of both fires are still under investigation.
