Remembering 9/11 20 years later in New Haven, Middlesex counties

Under sunny skies, across the shoreline, from Branford to Old Saybrook, solemn ceremonies on Saturday, Sept. 11 were held to honor those who lost their lives 20 years ago. In Guilford, a giant American flag was suspended from a crane during a memorial service organized by The Guilford VFW. The event was to honor the 2,977 lives lost and more than 6,000 injured at during the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and United Airlines Flight 93, as well as all the first responders who responded that day. In Branford, the ceremony on the green included, among others, First Selectman Jamie Cosgrove, Fire Chief Tom Mahoney, Police Chief Jon Mulhern, the police and fire departments, the Stony Creek Fife and Drum Corps, Branford High School Music Makers and Marine Cadets of America.
